Madonna At Coachella

I L-O-V-E Madge. So when I learned she had signed to appear at Coachella Music Fest I knew my ass would be there to see her.
Was it worth it? No doubt.
However, you’d be hard pressed to get me into a sardine tent like that for anyone less. I mean, there I am, in the middle of the desert, sweating in 98-degree heat, surrounded by 30,000 other Madonna lovers, with little water or beer (because gawd forbid you lose your place in the tent just to pee). It was every man, woman and a few children for themselves. No “excuse me,” no “pardon me,” no sir… everyone trying to push by me to get closer to the stage was met with strong resistance… my feet were rooted.
After standing for couple hours waiting for the magic moment, the cover image from Madonna’s latest album was beamed on three video screens, Madonna herself graces the stage, singing her first line of the night, “Time goes back.” She’s in black sunglasses, a glittery purple and blue get-up. Her late arrival has been forgiven. See some for yourself, click the pic.
The crowd goes batty — screaming, fists in the air, a palpable ripple of amazement that it’s really her!
After her first song from her new album, she howls, “It’s (expletive) hot in here!” Then, “This is my first festival. Now who’s going to share their drugs with me?” But neither the heat nor sobriety cramps her style. She slithers on the floor, writhes with Le Parkour dancers and twirls her blond cascade of curls. Madonna was hot.
She even broke out the guitar for New York. In it she changed some of the words to diss our idiotic President – I probably shouldn’t put them here.
In the highlight of the set, she performs “Ray of Light,” and some inconsiderate person tosses water toward the performer. She wipes it up with a towel, reprimanding, “Don’t throw water on my stage, (plural expletive).”
“Should I do an old song?” she asked. “Should I take my pants off? I need help”
And speaking of dousing, when she performed “Everybody,” glitter was showered into the air and onto the crowd.
A short half hour performance and an $80 ticket later… it was over.
